Discernment, preparation and support are essential for healthy church planting.

Are you ready to plant?

Accurate assessment of church planting potential is essential. Unless you really like pain and frustration, you do not want to attempt to plant a church without thoroughly working out if you have the character, have been equipped for the task and convinced of the urgency of the Gospel undergirding your work.

  • Church Planting Support is a structured pathway of assessment, coaching, and resourcing for those exploring or preparing to plant a church.
Multiply’s support is designed to help discern whether a prospective planter is suited for the work, and to provide meaningful support before, during, and after the planting process.

Rather than rushing to launch, we walk carefully with planters through assessment of character, theology, family life, gifting, health, and strategy. This process helps clarify readiness, identify areas for growth, and ensure that planters are not carrying the burden alone. Our aim is not speed, but faithfulness—seeking the long-term health of both the planter and the future congregation.

  • Church planting is urgently needed in New Zealand—but urgency must be matched with wisdom.
The gospel continues to advance through the planting of healthy local churches, yet the New Zealand context presents unique challenges: spiritual apathy, cultural resistance, geographic isolation, and the personal cost of ministry in small and stretched contexts.

The average new church gains most of its new members from people who are not currently attending any church.

  • The Church Planting Support process involves four intentional phases.
Beginning with application and initial questionnaires, the process moves through assessment, in-depth interviews, and finally into becoming a Multiply-linked planter. Each phase is designed to bring clarity, invite prayerful reflection, and involve trusted voices from the planter’s life and church.

Once formally linked with Multiply, planters are assigned a Multiply Coach and gain access to in-network resources, training, and relationships. This support works alongside denominational structures, not in place of them, providing practical help as planters gather a core group, develop strategy, plan finances, and prepare for launch. Throughout the process, our commitment is to walk with planters honestly, prayerfully, and faithfully.
